Privacy policy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information I collect when you contact The Business Boffins, how I use it, who it is shared with and the rights you have. I've tried to keep it short and in plain English. If anything is unclear, please get in touch.
Who I am
The Business Boffins is the trading name of Business Boffins Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12756270). Registered office: 3 Meldrum Court, Welwyn, England, AL6 9FZ.
Business Boffins Limited is the controller of the personal information described here. The business is run by Nick Marks, who handles all enquiries personally. You can contact me about privacy at nick@thebusinessboffins.com or on 0333 880 3020.
What information I collect
- Contact form: your name, email address, and optionally your company name and phone number, plus anything you include in your message.
- WhatsApp: if you message me on WhatsApp, I receive your phone number, the name and profile details you have set in WhatsApp, and the messages you send.
- Email and phone: your contact details and whatever you choose to tell me.
- Website visits: this website does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The company that hosts it keeps basic technical records, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to run the website securely.
Please don't send detailed financial records or other sensitive information until we've agreed to work together.
How I use your information
- To reply to your enquiry, arrange a call and discuss whether and how I can help.
- To keep a record of our correspondence.
- To meet legal, accounting and regulatory obligations.
I use your information on the basis of my legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and running the business, to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and to comply with legal obligations. I won't add you to a mailing list or send marketing without your agreement, and I never sell personal information.
If you become a client, I'll explain how I use your information when we agree the terms of our work together.
Who I share it with
I only share personal information with service providers that help me run the business, and only as needed:
- Netlify, Inc.: hosts this website and receives contact form submissions.
- WhatsApp (Meta): carries WhatsApp messages. WhatsApp's own terms and privacy policy apply when you use it.
- Google (Google Workspace): provides my business email.
I may also share information with professional advisers, or where required by law, for example with HMRC or the courts.
Transfers outside the UK
Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, I rely on the safeguards they provide, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to standard contractual clauses.
How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don't lead to work are deleted within 12 months.
- Client records are kept for six years after our work together ends, to meet legal and tax requirements.
Keeping your information secure
I use reputable, secure services and limit access to personal information to what is needed.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you;
- ask me to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask me to delete your information;
- ask me to restrict or stop using it, or object to how it is used;
- ask for your information in a portable format, in some circumstances.
To make a request, contact me at nick@thebusinessboffins.com. I'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

This website does not set cookies or use analytics. If you follow a link to WhatsApp, LinkedIn or another website, that website's own cookie and privacy policies apply.
Changes to this policy
I'll update this page if the way I handle personal information changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
